What We Love To Do When We’re Not In The Office

Emma and Lesley from Little Bird Creative at Wadebridge Ambulance Hall

We’re firm believers in the importance of a healthy work-life balance. In fact, one of the reasons we do what we do is to take the strain from our clients so they can retain their own balance! But what do we get up to when we’re not in the office?

We always say that we take the time to get to know our clients as individuals, in order to provide the best possible service, whether they’re looking for graphic design, web design, copywriting or any of the services we provide.  So for this month’s blog, we thought it was about time that we returned the favour and let you get to know us.

When we’re not in the office, we’re usually found…

Singing!

This is the BIG one!  For both of us, music has played an enormous role in our lives; helping us through difficult times,  giving a soundtrack to the special moments and acting as a constant presence in our world.  Indeed, it was music that brought the two Little Birds together, when Emma turned up to a singing course run by More Harmony Women’s Barbershop Chorus.  The Musical Director of that chorus was none other than Lesley – fate played a musical hand that night, for sure!

Nowadays, as well as singing with (and directing!) More Harmony, we are also two parts of Generation Gap quartet, singing lead (Emma) and tenor (Lesley) with our friends Liz and Val.  There is something magical about close harmony singing and it’s pretty much our number one activity when we’re not busy in the office!

Eating...

All that singing is a lot of work and we’re a pair who understand the importance of refuelling…

Look, we’re not saying we’re greedy, but we are saying we work better when we’re well fed!  We’re fans of cake during meetings and we’re big believers in exploring new places to eat.  And hey, those new restaurants might be looking for someone to build them a website, design them a logo or run their social media, so technically we aren’t just filling our faces.  We’re networking.

We also enjoy cooking together, whether it’s a sizzling stir-fry or a bit of baking.  Basically, food plays a big role in our lives, whether we’re at work or at home.  Lesley has even dabbled in creating goodies for sale, selling homemade chocolates at craft fairs!

Quizzing

We absolutely love a good quiz, both as participants and as hosts!  Before the pandemic, we were weekly participants in a local pub quiz and although we do say so ourselves, we did pretty well, ending up somewhere in the top 3 most weeks!  Not bad for a team of two…

We’re also very keen on puzzles and escape rooms.  Give us a code to break or a mystery to solve and we are absolutely in our element!  We’ve often said one of our dream clients would be someone setting up an escape room, wanting help with everything from the logo and website to promotional video and additional theming.  We’ve played enough of them in our time to have a pretty strong sense of what works and what doesn’t, after all!

Exploring!

We’re lucky enough to live in a really beautiful part of the world and we enjoy exploring Cornwall.  From the glorious, sandy beaches to the exquisite gardens and woodland – even the wild and wonderful moors – we can often be found taking a stroll through this stunning county of ours.

When the chance arises, we like to explore further afield, too.  Places we’ve been together include Harrogate, London and Cheddar Gorge!  We find that a change of scenery – even just a walk down the road – brings us out into the fresh air and gets our creative juices flowing far better than simply staying in and staring at a blank computer screen can.

Of course, there are plenty of other hobbies we could mention – those we share and those we’ve yet to rope the other into yet!  But we hope we’ve given you a glimpse into our lives beyond the office.

Speaking of the office, we’re hard at work producing eye-catching websites, writing attention-grabbing copy, creating bold and unique logos and much more besides!  If you’re looking for creative services, drop us a line – we’re always happy to help!

Whilst most of us are aware that creating legal policies or setting up mass production might be best left to the experts, we often tell ourselves that when it comes to designing flyers to advertise our organisation, or creating a logo for our new business, we can definitely do that ourselves. After all, how hard can it be?!
