According to Siteefy there are over a billion websites in the world, with hundreds more created every minute. Standing out from a crowd that large when someone searches the web is a challenge. Reaching the top of that list is what Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO, is all about.

Of course, you can skip the queue with a paid advert, but most people ignore these. Instead, they click on the “organic” results, so taking the time to boost your ranking may well be more effective.

When you’re working on your website’s SEO, start with what a potential customer is looking for. Think about what people type into a search engine and use this as the building block for your strategy. Once you know the searches you want to appear in, you can start to get your website climbing to the top of that results list. You may decide to change the content you include, the way you name your pages or the design and layout of the site. Google decides which websites deserve that top-spot by looking at a potential 200 different factors! If that sounds daunting, don’t panic, you don’t need to look at all of them! Focus on giving visitors what they want as quickly and easily as possible, and the technical nitty-gritty will fall in line.

1. Give People What They Want

Make sure that the contents of your website gives people accurate, relevant information. “High quality” content plays a huge role in your search ranking, so put your potential customer’s needs right at the centre of what goes on your site.

2. Get Straight To The Point​

Most people won’t read  all of your website. Time is in short supply, so speed things up with clear page titles, short paragraphs and imagery that reinforces the text. Give visitors a positive experience by guiding them to what they need and you’ll improve your ranking.

3. Stay Up To Date

Not only do you need relevant content, you need regular content. Making sure your website stays fresh shows both Google and your visitors that you are open for business.

4. Keep It Local

Lots of people search online for local businesses. Make sure that you don’t miss out by including your location on your site. People will search the web on their mobiles while out and about – if you pop up in their Google search they might pop in to your shop! Back this up with an up to date Google Business profile to make yourself easy to find on and off-line.

5. Be Accessible
