It’s Women’s History Month – This is How We Accelerate Action!
This women’s history month, we thought we’d take a look at some of the ways we try to accelerate action – both at work and beyond!
There are certain things we go into with the absolute best intentions. “Yes, I will keep up this gym membership beyond January!” or “I’m definitely going to sort through that cupboard full of clutter and once it’s clear, I’m never just chucking stuff in there again!”
Fast forward a few weeks and the gym membership card is languishing in that very cupboard, which is looking decidedly on the cluttered side…
So it has been with this blog!
A monthly look at what we’re up to seemed like a fantastic way to lift the curtain on the services we offer and on us as people – as we always say to our clients, people buy from people, after all.
It also felt like a great way to offer some tips to those seeking the kind of services we provide, but who may want to try doing it themselves before splashing any cash. We’ve always tried hard to keep our prices as reasonable as possible, but we’re very aware that the cost of living has increased enormously since we started Little Bird Creative – and that times are tough for many of the sectors we work with. For that reason, we’ve never had a problem with sharing free guidance or advice via our blog (and now we mention it, we still don’t, either!).
But as we mentioned, all the best intentions can get waylaid now and again…
We paused our monthly updates for – mostly – the best of reasons. We were busy with work! Building websites, writing engaging copy, editing video and creating beautiful graphic design for our clients is literally what we do. More importantly, it’s what we want to be doing. We love our jobs and we relish the challenge of a each new project that comes through our doors. Focusing on work is a no-brainer: if we’re torn between getting that theatre poster looking fabulous, or writing a quick blog about the process of designing said theatre poster, the client is always going to come first. If it means we don’t have time to update our socials or get a new blog up on our website, so be it. And no, the irony of writing regular blog posts being one of the jobs we do for clients is not lost on us…
Little Bird Creative are a two-woman team. Yes, that sometimes means that one of us can focus on a client whilst the other keeps the website and social channels updated, but when work comes in thick and fast (again, very much not complaining!), it can mean neither of us has the freedom for Facebook (damn you, Twitter for turning rubbish – “time to tweet” would have sounded so much better…).
When you set up a business, it’s drummed into you how important social media is. And yes, we tell our clients the same thing, because it is important to be active online these days. It’s also important to regularly update your website, to save it becoming too static. Doing so helps with SEO, shows customers you’re still open and gives people a reason to keep returning. I guess what we’re saying is… Do as we say, not as we do?!
Seriously though, sometimes real life just gets in the way. Running your own business is exceptionally exciting and rewarding, but it can also be stressful and exhausting. So can life in general!
Now and again, life throws you a curveball and suddenly your free time dwindles. Sometimes there are amazing opportunities too good to turn down, which mean you have to divert your attention elsewhere. And sometimes, life hands you a whole truck load of lemons and you sit there, furiously reading lemonade recipes until your eyes have gone square…
Whatever is going on outside of Little Bird HQ, there is one constant that never changes: our passion for what we do and the quality of work we aspire to achieve. Whether you’re looking for a website with all the bells and whistles, or a video edit that really gets people’s attention, we’ve got you covered. We’ll get the work done on time, on budget and with all the care and attention you expect. Just drop us a line and we’ll be happy to help!
We just might need a bit of a nudge when it comes to updating our own blog now and again…
